The Institute of Accounting Technicians in Ireland was established in 1983 and has grown to become the leading accounting technician body in Ireland. Being a student member of the IATI means having an affiliation with a professional organisation. In 2009 the IATI changed its name to Accounting Technicians Ireland.

An Accounting Technician is trained in Accounting, Law, Taxation, Business Management and IT. Typically an Accounting Technician will work in an accountant’s office, in the Accounts Department of a company or in government offices. Their work can include VAT, Payroll, Accounts payable, Accounts Receivable (Credit Control).

Entrance Requirements

  • 5 Passes in the leaving cert or
  • Mature Student over 24

Study

  • 2 years
  • Parttime

The Course is two years in duration, in the first year you will start learning the basics of accounting and business.  The second year will build on that foundation and take you to a more advanced understanding of Accounting and Business

Examinations

The Exams are held in May and September (repeats) each year. Students have 5 years over which they must complete the exams, however the majority of students would complete the exams over 2 year

Qualification

After successfully completing the admission examinations students are then eligible to apply for membership of the Accounting Technicians Ireland. Students must meet a work experience requirement of 3 years. Upon admission to the Accounting Technicians of Ireland learners will hold a professional qualification.

Further Studies and Exemptions

The Accounting Technicians of Ireland qualification is a fantastic stepping stone to further studies.  Many students who wish to pursue further qualifications go on to become a fully qualified accountant.  Exemptions are available for many accounting bodies including the CPA and ACCA.  Successful learners can further their studies at Clane College and maybe entitled to exemptions from other courses. Exemptions are available for some subjects in Formation 2.
