A Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is a fully qualified accountant and member of the Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Ireland. With over 5,000 members and students, the Institute of Certified Public Accountants in Ireland is one of Ireland's main accountancy bodies.

During training CPA students do not have to commit to a training contract with one employer, allowing flexibility and freedom to move around during training. CPA students can also put relevant work experience towards training requirements and do not need to be in relevant employment when starting exams.

The CPA qualification is recognised as equivalent to those of other statutory bodies in the EU and the qualification is included in the EC Directive on the recognition of professional qualifications - the Mutual Recognition Directive (89/48/EEC).
What do CPA graduates do?
CPA members and students work across a variety of roles in both practice and 'industry', including sectors such as financial services, banking, manufacturing, construction, education and consultancy. The CPA Institute is an independent body controlled in Ireland however CPA Members work in over 28 countries worldwide!
Routes to entry
There are 3 main routes to entry in becoming a CPA:

Holders of recognised qualifications (post grad, degree, diploma, certificate, accounting technician etc.) may be entitled to various exemptions from the CPA exams. Students should enquire with the CPA directly and get confirmation of their exemptions
