Student Funding
There are several routes which you may choose to follow in pursuit of financial assistance, especially with respect to course fees. Although Clane College is a private learning provider - and as such, attendants on our courses cannot be guaranteed funding by the department of education - there are a number of student grant and funding schemes supported by government organisations for which you may qualify:
The Technical Employment Support Grant (TESG)
In cases where FAS is unable to provide training in a particular field - and where the applicant is currently unemployed and seeking training in said field - FAS may provide funding for the prospective student to receive such training at a private college, such as Clane College. One of the schemes setup for this purpose is The Technical Employment Support Grant (TESG).
What's Involved:
- Visit your nearest FAS office. All FAS Placement Officers should be aware of the TESG
- Demonstrate to your FAS Placement Officer that attending this course is part of your Action Plan to return to work
- If FAS deem the course you wish to attend to be an essential step in your Action Plan, they may fund you up to 100%
Department of Social Protection:
Back To Education
It is now possible for unemployed persons to return to either full-time or part-time education with an institution such as Clane College, and continue to receive income support payments.
Back to Education Allowance
The Back to Education Allowance (BTEA) is a scheme for unemployed people, lone parents and people with disabilities who are getting certain payments from the Department of Social Protection.
The allowance can be paid to people who wish to do or take approved second or third level courses of education. BTEA is not an unemployment payment. Participants get a standard rate of payment which is not means tested.
What's Involved:
Contact the college to get details of the courses available. We will advise you on how to get a place on the course of your choice.
If you are accepted on a course, you should notify the Department of Social Protection by filling in the Back to Education Allowance application form which is available from your Social Welfare Local Office.

Your Social Welfare Local Office may make special signing-on arrangements so that you can attend your course.
What's Involved:

- Contact your Local Social Welfare Office
